Will You Walk in the Woods So Wild?

Step into the enchanting world of Renaissance England with "Will You Walk into the Wood so Wild?", a captivating arrangement by Erin Spencer.

Originally a popular tune from the 16th century, this melody found its most famous setting in William Byrd's 12 keyboard variations, praised for its delicate, bird-like flourishes. As one admirer remarked, “How daintily this Byrd his notes doth vary, As if he were the Nightingale’s own brother!”

In this reimagined version for flute players, you'll not only enjoy playing the expressive arrangement, but you'll also have the chance to make it your own. At the end of the score, space is provided for you to create your own variation! Experiment by adding notes between the melody, incorporating trills, changing the rhythm, or even exploring a new key signature. Let the melody guide you into the wild wood, and see where your creativity takes you!

We are proud to announce that this piece received an Honorable Mention for Solo Flute Repertoire in the National Flute Association's 2024 Newly Published Music Competition!
